Dr Joost Heystek (1954, Alblasserdam) worked in secondary education as a teacher, school leader and administrator for 40 years. In 1996 he obtained his doctorate from Utrecht University for his research into Romania during the Interbellum.
Since 2012, Joost has picked up the hobby from his teenage years again: painting and drawing. His work consists mainly of realistic cityscapes and portraits. Utrecht is a great source of inspiration. For oil paintings he uses traditional glazing as well as the wet-on-wet method and handmade paint. He has also been painting watercolors since 2019. The fresh and bright colors give the work a contemporary character. Joost's favorite works are Magazijn de Vlijt and the portrait of his daughter in the Clair-obscur (Chiaroscuro) style.
