Henrik Hey was born in Denmark in 1950. He studied art at the 'Danish Design School' in Copenhagen and graduated with a degree in graphics.
Henrik Hey works in an ancient Japanese woodcut technique (mokuhanga or woodblock printmaking), which he studied intensively during the Nagasawa Artist in residence program year 2000. There he had lessons from Japanese master printers. Working in that old technique requires rest, concentration and long preparation. Henrik's prints radiate tranquility. They are not screaming for attention but they are still. They display a rock-solid joy. The execution of these prints is extremely precise and refined. Henrik Hey has been living and working in Utrecht for 25 years now.
